design urchin

A few days ago in my "freelance diary" post I mentioned that I had been working on a few business things such as coming up with a name for a business... and designing a business card, logo... etc.

Here is the latest and most favorited idea that I have so far:

urchin [ˈɜːtʃɪn]
n
1. a mischievous roguish child,

I sort of love it. I sometimes think of myself as mischievous, so in that sense it's fitting, and I've spent my entire life on the seacoast, where urchins are plentiful and always a joy to find washed up on the beach. You know, if you're one for collecting shells and sea glass and things. Thoughts?

Freelance Diary//Weeks 5 & 6

Image via
What have I done the past couple weeks? It sort of feels like everything and nothing at the same time! I feel like I've been slowly but surely getting prioritized tasks done successfully, but on the other hand I also feel like I still have so much to do and I'm not working fast enough. Some of the most important things I've been focusing on is working on having an awesome portfolio, browsing a few companies around the area for internship opportunities (I really like here and here!), and putting a half hearted effort into organizing a "work" space for myself.

Additionally, I've been working on building the "business" part of my business: Coming up with a name... designing a business card and logo... all that fun stuff, I suppose. My work with clients has been lessening because I haven't been as active trying to pursue work as line up all my ducks, I suppose! Perhaps I should have done this before venturing into freelance officially? Who knows. I guess everyone has their own way.

outside your comfort zone

Via
Sometimes I find myself drawn to things that don't fit in-or anywhere close- to what my normal style is. Such as this lovely bit of coziness above... I'm really into clean, white with lots of color (reds, oranges, yellows, greens) This tent/handmade canopy just looks so lovely and zen and peaceful, though, doesn't it? Things like this would make me totally okay with stepping out of my comfort zone every so often.

Do you ever find yourself drawn to things that aren't your normal style? Are you willing to step out of your comfort zone to try them?

We found an Apartment!

Ping Pong Ball Lampshade DIY
So I mentioned sometime last week that Ryan and I were currently apartment hunting. With a wee addition to the family, we feel like we need more space. We've been browsing for a couple months, and our current landlord told us that they had an opening in another one of their buildings. Yesterday we went to look it and today put down a deposit! It's still currently occupied, but our official move-in date is July 1st. Wheee!

In the meantime, I've been mildly pre-occupied with DIY interior projects (such as this ping pong ball lampshade from Marie Claire Idées !), and browsing other interior blog faves such as here and here.

More on our upcoming move soon!

Food Love// 5

From Grilled Cheese Social
Grilled Cheese Social is literally one of my favorite food blogs out there. Creative, original, and so simple to do at home. Most recently loving this post featuring a panini with Cacciatorini salami, Arugala, Olive oil, and Satori Pastorale cheese. Even more delicious with the recommended aggressive IPA. Summer is just a hop, skip and a jump away, and I'm anxiously awaiting for the Farmers' Market to be in full bloom. In the meantime, I'm making grilled cheese.
